The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Mojisola Adeyeye, has called for increased investment in the well-being of women and children, stressing that it is crucial for building a healthier and more sustainable future for Nigeria.
Adeyeye made the call during NAFDAC’s commemoration of International Women’s Day 2026 held in Abuja, where the agency celebrated the contributions of its workforce, particularly female staff.

Speaking on the theme, “Give to Gain,” the NAFDAC boss emphasised the need to recognise the resilience and significant contributions of women within institutions dedicated to safeguarding public health.
According to her, strengthening the welfare of women and children should remain a priority in national development efforts. She highlighted NAFDAC’s Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Initiative, launched in November 2025, as part of the agency’s efforts to support improved health outcomes across the country.
Adeyeye noted that women play a critical role in advancing public health and national development, adding that sustained support for their well-being would contribute to stronger healthcare systems and healthier communities.
The event brought together NAFDAC staff and stakeholders to reflect on the role of women in promoting community well-being and strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system.
In her welcome remarks, the Head of the Reforms Unit at NAFDAC, Mrs. Joan Agbaagu, said the theme “Give to Gain” underscores the value of selfless service and collective commitment to improving the health and welfare of mothers, women and children.
She added that the celebration provided an opportunity to acknowledge the dedication of women within the agency and encourage continued collaboration in advancing public health goals.
