Zenith Bank Plc has made history on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), becoming the first Nigerian financial institution to surpass the ₦5 trillion market capitalisation mark.

The milestone cements the bank’s position as the most valuable banking stock in the country, following a sustained period of strong market performance and investor confidence.

Between December 2025 and March 2026, Zenith Bank’s share price rose sharply from ₦61.80 to an all-time high of ₦113.30.

The rally continued into April, with the stock closing at ₦127.20 on April 20, 2026, pushing its total market valuation to approximately ₦5.2 trillion.

Analysts say the bullish sentiment is underpinned by the bank’s solid financial results for the year ended December 31, 2025.

The lender posted gross earnings of ₦4.19 trillion, representing a 6 per cent increase from ₦3.97 trillion recorded in 2024.

Market watchers have attributed the record-breaking performance to the leadership of Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Adaora Umeoji, whose strategy has focused on strengthening capital, accelerating digital transformation, and expanding the bank’s international footprint.

A major core banking system upgrade in 2024 significantly improved operational efficiency, while the rollout of the eaZy by Zenith digital wallet and the deployment of advanced data analytics for risk management have further enhanced service delivery and investor appeal.

Zenith Bank’s global standing has also remained strong, highlighted by its 16th consecutive ranking as Nigeria’s top bank by Tier-1 capital in The Banker’s “Top 1000 World Banks” list.

With a stable funding base of ₦24.33 trillion in customer deposits and operations spanning key international markets, including the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, China, and several African countries, the bank is seen as well-positioned for sustained growth.

The ₦5 trillion market capitalisation milestone marks a significant moment for Nigeria’s banking sector, reinforcing investor confidence in Zenith Bank’s long-term strategy amid an evolving global financial landscape.
