The Transportation Correspondents Association of Nigeria (TCAN) has announced plans to honour outstanding contributors to Nigeria’s transportation sector at its 2026 Annual Transport Summit through the presentation of the Champions of Transport Industry Development (CoTID) awards.

The summit, scheduled for September 24, 2026, will be held at Radisson Hotel & Suites, Lagos, and is themed “Unlocking Economic Growth Through Transportation Logistics.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday, TCAN said the event would bring together key stakeholders across the transportation and logistics value chain, including players in the aviation, maritime, rail, road transport and logistics sectors, alongside policymakers, regulators, financial institutions, development partners and industry leaders.

According to the association, the summit will serve as a platform to recognise government agencies, operators and institutions that have made significant contributions to the development and transformation of Nigeria’s transportation industry.

“The 2026 TCAN Transport Summit is set to recognise agencies of government and other operators who have contributed immensely to the development of Nigeria’s transportation sector by presenting Champions of Transport Industry Development (CoTID) certificates to outstanding agencies and operators,” the statement said.

Speaking on the significance of the event, TCAN Chairman, Tola Adenubi, said transportation logistics remains a critical driver of economic development and national competitiveness.

He noted that organisations and governments that have demonstrated commitment to improving transportation infrastructure and services deserve recognition for their contributions.

“Transportation logistics remains the backbone of economic development, and thus, every agency, operator or state government that has made efforts to improve transportation should be recognised,” Adenubi said.

He explained that efficient logistics systems, ranging from cargo handling at airports and seaports to inland waterways operations, freight services and last-mile delivery networks, play a decisive role in supporting trade, investment and economic growth.

According to him, the summit will explore innovative approaches to improving transportation logistics, including digital transformation, infrastructure financing, public-private partnerships and regulatory reforms aimed at enhancing sectoral efficiency.

Also speaking, Chairman of the 2026 Conference Committee, Suleiman Idris, said the summit would feature high-level panel discussions, keynote addresses and interactive sessions focused on addressing critical challenges within the transportation sector.

He said participants would assess the current state of Nigeria’s transportation logistics architecture, identify bottlenecks affecting cargo and passenger movement, and examine strategies for improving operational efficiency.

Idris added that stakeholders would also deliberate on the role of multimodal transportation integration in driving economic expansion and creating a more efficient logistics ecosystem.

According to him, the event will further spotlight investment opportunities across the transportation and supply chain sectors while generating practical policy recommendations to strengthen Nigeria’s global competitiveness.

Industry experts, regulators, transport operators and investors are expected to share insights on how to leverage transportation infrastructure and logistics services as catalysts for sustainable economic growth.

The association expressed confidence that the 2026 edition would further deepen collaboration among stakeholders and provide actionable solutions to challenges affecting transportation logistics and economic development in the country.
