A former Commissioner for Health in Ogun State, Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo, has commended the President Bola Tinubu-led administration for its efforts in stabilising the Naira, expanding infrastructure, and enhancing international trade engagements.
Obasanjo made the remarks on Saturday during a media parley in Abeokuta, where she addressed questions on her political ambitions, governance priorities, and national issues.Read also: Restore peace nationwide, Tinubu tells acting IGP Disu
She described the stabilisation of the Naira as a key development that enables businesses to plan effectively and highlighted improvements in road and port connectivity as drivers of economic growth.
“Although there’s a lot of negativity around the construction of the coastal road, in the long run, it will generate income in terms of connectivity of the two ports. It will also ease transportation to the East in ways we can’t yet fully reckon with and help decongest the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway,” she said.
On security, Obasanjo noted improvements resulting from increased collaboration and the president’s international trade visits, which she said are boosting economic development.Read also: Naira will drop to N1,000/$ in Weeks – Tinubu
She also shared insights on politics, emphasizing that it is about building relationships and maintaining steady engagement with people, not just contesting elections.
Obasanjo said she feels valued within the All Progressives Congress (APC) and compared political networking to professional circles, where long-term connections and mutual support matter.
On her development agenda for Ogun State, she identified industrialisation, agriculture, education, tourism, and transportation as key priorities.
She praised the growth of factories in the state as a driver of job creation and revenue generation, stressing that economic growth relies on citizens having disposable income.
“When people have money to spend, the economy grows. Real development starts from there,” she concluded, highlighting job creation as central to her vision for the state.
