A former ally of the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, Aslam Aliyu, has defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid ahead of the 2027 general election.

Aliyu announced her defection in a statement, saying the decision followed what she described as a careful assessment of Nigeria’s political landscape and the inability of the opposition to present a credible alternative for national development.

She disclosed that she had spent nearly two decades working within Atiku Abubakar’s political camp, maintaining unwavering loyalty throughout the period.

According to her, her experience convinced her that the opposition lacked a practical roadmap capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges.

“The ADC has no concrete plan for the country other than to criticise the government without bringing a single viable solution to the table. Political culture must move past theatrical criticism and embrace measurable progress,” she said.

Aliyu urged Nigerian youths, women and members of opposition parties to support the administration of President Tinubu, saying national development requires collaboration rather than persistent political confrontation.

“I am a mother, calling on patriotic Nigerian youths, women and forward-thinking opposition members to abandon counterproductive politics and join hands with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” she stated.

Expressing confidence in the President’s political future, she declared that there was “no vacancy in Aso Rock Villa,” predicting that Tinubu would secure victory in the 2027 presidential election.

“There is no vacancy in Aso Rock Villa, as Bola Ahmed Tinubu will emerge as the winner of the presidential election come 2027, by the grace of Almighty Allah,” she added.

The Zamfara-born politician said her decision to join the APC was driven by a desire to contribute more effectively to national development under what she described as a more structured political platform.

Her defection adds to the growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties intensifying efforts to strengthen their support base across the country.
