The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has ordered an immediate investigation into the alleged assault of a lecturer from the University of Ibadan, Dr. Mikail Abdussalam, at the Obafemi Awolowo Train Station in Moniya, Ibadan.
In a statement issued by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the corporation, Kayode Opeifa, the NRC expressed serious concern over reports of the incident circulating in the media.
The corporation stressed that harassment, intimidation, or any form of misconduct against passengers or members of the public is unacceptable and contradicts the organisation’s operational standards and values.

According to the statement, management has directed an immediate probe into the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault. It added that any staff found culpable of violating the corporation’s professional and public service code of conduct would face appropriate disciplinary action in line with existing regulations and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The NRC also expressed regret over the incident and extended an apology to Dr. Abdussalam for the distress the situation may have caused.
“The corporation remains committed to ensuring that all passengers and visitors at its stations are treated with dignity, respect and professionalism at all times,” the statement said.
It further assured the public that measures are being implemented to strengthen adherence to customer service standards across its facilities in order to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
