The Nigerian naira maintained a relatively stable performance against the United States dollar today, with traders showing cautious optimism as the new trading week began.

According to currency market data, ₦1,360 was exchanged for $1 on the foreign exchange market as of this morning, reflecting only minor day‑to‑day movement and signalling stability following recent market trends.

Market watchers say the local currency’s steadiness comes amid broader macroeconomic indicators showing improving external buffers and some reduction in exchange rate volatility.

Data from the end of February showed the naira ending the month stronger, with the official rate around ₦1,368.5/$1, modestly improved from earlier in the week.

The performance contrasts with earlier periods of pressure in the foreign exchange market, when the naira experienced intermittent depreciation following monetary policy decisions in recent months.

Analysts have noted that liquidity conditions and investor expectations especially after the Central Bank of Nigeria’s 304th Monetary Policy Committee meeting continued to influence market direction.

In addition to the dollar, the naira also traded against other major global currencies today, with the euro fetching about ₦1,604 and the British pound around ₦1,829.

Economists say that while today’s stability is encouraging, sustained improvements in foreign exchange liquidity, strong export earnings and ongoing policy reforms will be key to long‑term confidence in the naira.
