Ogun State’s Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) has confirmed that six people lost their lives while three others sustained injuries in a tragic accident at the Ilo-Awela axis of the Toll Gate area along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
Ota Divisional Commander of TRACE, Mr. Salau Hammed, said the incident occurred around 9:55 a.m. on Tuesday and involved a truck, a tricycle, and nine other individuals.
According to Hammed, an eyewitness reported that the truck, traveling from Ilo-Awela toward the Toll Gate, suffered a brake failure, causing it to crash into a tricycle, other vehicles, and pedestrians.
“Six deaths, comprising five males and one female, were recorded, while three persons were critically injured.
The corpses have been taken to the mortuary at Ifo General Hospital, and the survivors are receiving treatment at Ota General Hospital,” Hammed stated.
He added that TRACE personnel, alongside sister agencies, were on the scene to manage traffic and clear the wreckage.
Hammed also urged motorists to avoid speeding and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy to prevent such tragedies.
This accident is the latest in a series of road incidents along the busy Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, highlighting persistent safety concerns on the highway.
