The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) has warned residents against the indiscriminate dumping of building materials such as gravel, granite, stone dust, and sand on roads and walkways, following a successful enforcement operation that led to the conviction of an offender in Ibadan.
The authority disclosed that the enforcement exercise was carried out in the Yemetu area of Ibadan, where one Adebayo Adesumbo was arrested for obstructing a public road with construction materials, including granite and sand.
According to OYRLEA, the offender was subsequently arraigned before the Oyo State Special Offences (Mobile) Court sitting in Ibadan, where he pleaded guilty to the charge brought against him.
Delivering judgment, the court convicted Adesumbo and imposed a fine of ₦40,000.
Reacting to the development, the Chairperson of OYRLEA, Honourable Justice Aderonke A. Aderemi (Rtd.), cautioned residents and construction operators against using public roads and walkways as dumping or storage points for building materials.
She noted that such practices pose serious risks to public safety, obstruct traffic flow, and hinder the free movement of pedestrians and motorists.

Aderemi reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to sustained enforcement across the state, stressing that violators of environmental and traffic regulations would continue to face prosecution.
She urged residents to comply with the law and contribute to maintaining a cleaner, safer, and more orderly environment across Oyo State.
