Agege Local Government in Lagos State has partnered with Sterling Bank to deploy a digital identification system aimed at reforming revenue administration and modernising council operations.
The announcement was made on Thursday by the council’s Chairman, Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, following a meeting with Sterling Bank’s Southwest Regional Business Manager, Abiola Bawuah, at the council secretariat.
Obasa explained that the initiative would embed technology in governance, enhance internally generated revenue, and improve service delivery for residents.

“By establishing a secure digital identification system, we aim to anchor governance on accurate data,” he said.
The chairman added that the system would create a centralised database to support planning, policy execution, and monitoring.
He emphasised that the use of digital channels would reduce revenue leakages, enhance accountability, and ensure transparency through secure platforms.
“Data-driven governance is the future Agege embraces,” Obasa declared, noting that the reform aligns with his administration’s commitment to efficiency and measurable outcomes.
In her remarks, Bawuah reaffirmed Sterling Bank’s dedication to supporting institutional reforms and digital transformation in the public sector.
“Our collaboration reflects commitment to sustainable, technology-driven governance,” she said, adding that the partnership would enhance both technical expertise and financial solutions for the council.
The initiative marks a significant step toward leveraging technology to strengthen local government administration and service delivery in Agege.
