The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a force majeure on the Ikeja West–Osogbo 330kV transmission line following a severe rainstorm that struck on Thursday, April 16, 2026.
In a statement issued by the General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the company disclosed that the transmission line tripped during the storm due to a fault detected approximately 14.9 kilometres from the Ikeja West (Ayobo) end.
Subsequent inspection by TCN maintenance crews revealed that Tower No. 515 collapsed during the storm, with the structure failing at its midsection.
The company said it has begun mobilising materials and personnel for the re-erection of the affected tower, while engineers are currently working to dismantle the damaged structure.

Despite the incident, TCN assured that power supply has not been completely disrupted, noting that an alternative transmission line remains in service to evacuate bulk electricity along the corridor.
The agency added that efforts are underway to restore flexibility and redundancy to the network and pledged to provide updates as repair works progress.
The development highlights the vulnerability of critical power infrastructure to extreme weather events, even as authorities intensify efforts to strengthen the national grid.
