The Managing Director, Smartjay Enterprises & Agro Consult, Mr Jamiu Atanda has appealed to farmers and stakeholders for greater understanding and patience in the nationwide delivery of day-old chicks, citing significant logistical challenges and risks associated with transportation across Nigeria.
In an open letter to its customers and partners, Mr Atanda said the process of delivering day-old chicks involves complex planning, strict timing, and careful handling, given the fragile nature of the birds.
According to him, unlike other goods, day-old chicks require controlled conditions such as adequate warmth, ventilation, and minimal movement, noting that even slight delays or poor handling could affect their survival.
He identified poor road conditions, long travel distances, traffic congestion, and road accidents as major challenges affecting timely deliveries.
He noted that its drivers often undertake overnight journeys through difficult terrains and unpredictable conditions to ensure the chicks reach farmers safely.
Atanda said the risks associated with transporting the chicks are high, adding that road incidents could lead to the loss of thousands of birds, financial setbacks, and delays that impact farmers who have already made preparations.
He disclosed that there have been instances where deliveries were delayed due to accidents, road blockages, or the need to reroute journeys to avoid danger, stressing that such decisions are made in the interest of safety.
Despite these challenges, the company reaffirmed its commitment to nationwide delivery, noting that many farmers across different states depend on its services for their operations.
He however, emphasised that chick delivery should be seen as a partnership built on trust and mutual understanding, explaining that delays are often the result of safety considerations rather than negligence.

He added that in some cases, it absorbs losses to fulfil its obligations to customers and maintain delivery standards.
Atanda reiterated that beyond transporting chicks, it plays a critical role in supporting farmers’ investments and livelihoods, urging stakeholders to continue supporting its efforts.
He also pledged to improve its logistics and delivery systems while maintaining a strong focus on safety and efficiency in its operations.
