The Kogi State Police Command has arrested eight suspected criminals during a coordinated bush-combing operation aimed at denying criminal elements safe havens in the state.
According to a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Saliu Afusat, on Friday, the operation was conducted in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, local hunters, and vigilante groups across several parts of Kogi.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that some of the suspects are believed to be informants aiding kidnapping syndicates operating within the area,” she said.
The suspects are currently in police custody, and further investigations are ongoing, with appropriate legal action to follow based on the findings.
ASP Afusat explained that the exercise involved combing forested and remote areas identified as vulnerable to criminal activity. Ground operations were complemented with aerial surveillance to track suspicious movements and identify concealed criminal hideouts.
Discovered bandit camps and hideouts were neutralized to prevent reuse.
The state police commissioner, Mr. Naziru Kankarofi, reassured residents of Kogi that the command remains in firm control of the security situation.
He urged the public to stay calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, and to report any suspicious activity through the command’s emergency lines: 07038329084 and 08152195982.
The operation forms part of the command’s continuous, intelligence-led security strategy to detect, disrupt, and dismantle criminal networks across Kogi State.
