The Oyo State Government has refuted what it described as a misleading report circulating from an interest group regarding the payment of retirees’ gratuities between 2015 and 2018.
The Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, said the report misrepresented his discussion with the group led by Comrade Ojekunle Tope.
According to Adelabu, he had clearly explained during the meeting that the current administration of Governor Seyi Makinde inherited unpaid gratuities dating back to 2008.
He stated that upon assumption of office, Governor Makinde began clearing the backlog from 2008 and that the payment process has remained consistent and ongoing.
The commissioner further disclosed that following the increase in the monthly allocation for gratuity payments from ₦1 billion to ₦3 billion, effective January 2026, the Ministry of Establishments and Training has intensified efforts and restructured its payment strategy to accelerate disbursement.
He revealed that in January 2026 alone, more than 500 beneficiaries received their gratuities, including pensioners whose entitlements became due in 2019.
Adelabu explained that retirees who qualified for payment in 2019 but are yet to receive their gratuities may be facing documentation or processing challenges, which the ministry is actively addressing.
He appreciated pensioners for their patience and continued support, assuring that all legitimate outstanding gratuities would be settled in due course.
