The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun I Area Command, Idiroko, has seized 146 consignments of contraband goods with a combined Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N4.63 billion between April 1 and June 23, 2026.
The Area Comptroller of the Command, Mr. Olukayode Afeni, disclosed this on Wednesday during a press briefing in Idiroko, Ogun State.
Afeni said the seizures were part of the command’s intensified anti-smuggling operations aimed at protecting the nation’s economy and enforcing compliance with import and export regulations.
According to him, the seized items included 2,807 bags of foreign parboiled rice weighing 50kg each, 9,482 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, 62 sacks of raw marijuana, 16,525 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 475 litres of diesel and 7,642 pairs of footwear.

Other items intercepted by the command comprised 63 sacks of foreign sugar, 73 bales of second-hand clothing, one used vehicle, 10 bags of fertiliser, 62 bags of imported flour, 32 cartons of frozen products and 100 sachets containing 10 pieces each of Tramadol tablets (225mg).
The comptroller explained that the items were seized either because they were on the prohibited import and export list or because importers failed to comply with relevant provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act and other extant regulations.
“The command remains resolute in its mandate to protect the national economy and secure our land borders,” Afeni stated.
On revenue performance, he disclosed that the command generated N259.28 million between April 1 and June 23, 2026, from baggage assessments, auction sales of perishable items, PMS-related transactions and other approved charges.
He noted that the figure represents a significant increase compared to the N76.81 million generated during the corresponding period in 2025, translating to a revenue growth of N182.45 million.
According to him, the improved performance was driven by the commitment of officers to ensuring strict adherence to import and export guidelines by traders and clearing agents.
Highlighting some major interceptions during the period, Afeni said operatives of the command’s patrol team covering the Ijebu-Ode axis intercepted a truck with registration number ENU 460 XY on June 3, conveying 2,427 pieces of smuggled pneumatic tyres.
He added that another truck, marked BKD 796 XB and carrying 113 bags of foreign parboiled rice, was intercepted along the Itori-Wasimi-Abeokuta road on June 16.
Similarly, a truck bearing registration number DRK 303 XA was intercepted on the Sagamu Expressway on May 17 with 630 bags of smuggled foreign parboiled rice.
Afeni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining its anti-smuggling operations and strengthening border security to curb the influx of prohibited goods into the country.
