The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has dismissed as false and misleading a viral infographic claiming that the Federal Government has introduced a new vehicle tax effective from July 1.
The agency clarified that no such tax had been approved, urging Nigerians to disregard the message and rely only on verified government communication channels for accurate information.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the NRS Chairman, Dr. Zach Adedeji, and spokesperson for the service, Mr. Dare Adekambi.
According to Adekambi, the viral infographic instructed owners of private, commercial, and corporate vehicles to pay an unspecified vehicle tax rate either online or through approved banks and agencies.
He noted that the material, which had no identifiable source, also directed the public to visit www.firs.gov.ng for more details, whereas the correct official website of the NRS is www.nrs.gov.ng.
Adekambi stressed that the Federal Government had not introduced any fresh tax on vehicles as claimed in the circulating message.
“The NRS wishes to state categorically that the information did not emanate from the service or any government agency.
“Citizens are, therefore, advised to disregard the fabricated messages designed to mislead the public and instead rely on official government channels for information on government policies,” he said.

He further described the infographic as entirely false and advised Nigerians to follow the official social media handles of the NRS as well as its website for authentic updates on tax matters and the agency’s activities.
The service reiterated its commitment to transparency and public awareness, warning against the growing spread of misinformation capable of causing unnecessary confusion among citizens.
