The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has secured a N70,000 monthly transport intervention for Nigerian workers for six months, beginning in November 2026, following conciliation talks with the Federal Government.

The agreement was reached at a meeting held at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, to address issues arising from communications issued by the NLC’s National Executive Council (NEC) and Central Working Committee (CWC).

Under the resolution, the transport intervention will be paid to workers across all levels for six months to cushion the impact of prevailing economic challenges on their welfare.

The agreement was signed by representatives of the Federal Government and the NLC, led by its President, Comrade Joe Ajaero.

Beyond the transport intervention, the parties agreed on the payment of arrears of a peculiar allowance, effective from May 2026.

The resolution also provides for the redemption of 19 months of outstanding arrears owed to health workers.

The measures form part of broader efforts to address workers’ welfare concerns and resolve outstanding labour-related issues through dialogue between the government and organised labour.

The Federal Government and the NLC urged state and local governments to key into the resolutions and support their implementation.

Both parties also agreed to reconvene after one month to review the level of implementation and assess progress made on the commitments.

Meanwhile, discussions on the national minimum wage are expected to continue, indicating that further negotiations on workers’ earnings and welfare remain on the agenda.

The agreement is expected to provide temporary financial relief to workers, although its impact will depend on timely implementation and compliance by the relevant authorities.
