The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Niger/Kogi Area Command, on Wednesday organized a health lecture on hypertension for its officers as part of efforts to promote workplace wellness and improve service delivery.
The lecture, held at the Command Conference Room on April 29, focused on raising awareness about the causes, symptoms, prevention, and management of hypertension among personnel.
Speaking at the event, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller M.S. Umar, represented by the Deputy Comptroller in charge of Enforcement, DC A. Dalha, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the health and well-being of officers.
He noted that maintaining good health among officers remains a priority, stressing that a healthy workforce is essential for effective performance and efficient service delivery.
The Command’s Medical Doctor, Superintendent of Customs (SC) U.I. Muhammed, who delivered the lecture, described hypertension as a “silent killer” capable of causing severe health complications if left unmanaged.
He educated officers on the risk factors associated with high blood pressure and emphasized the need for regular medical check-ups and healthier lifestyle choices.
According to him, officers should maintain a balanced diet, engage in regular physical exercise, reduce salt intake, and adopt effective stress management strategies to prevent hypertension and other related illnesses.
In his remarks, DC Dalha urged officers to take their health seriously and apply the knowledge gained from the session in their daily routines.
He said prioritizing personal health would not only improve their quality of life but also enhance productivity and commitment to duty.

The event also featured an interactive session during which officers asked questions and received professional guidance on how to better manage their health.
