The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has disclosed that Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) metered a total of 241,590 customers between January and February 2026 as efforts to bridge the country’s metering gap continued.
The commission made this known on Thursday in a factsheet published on its official X handle in Abuja.
According to the report, a total of 119,792 electricity customers were metered in January, while 121,798 customers received meters in February.
The report indicated that the metering rate stood at 57.93 per cent in January and improved slightly to 58.57 per cent in February.
Cumulatively, the commission stated that the number of metered customers rose from 7.1 million in January to 7.2 million in February.
It also revealed that the total number of active electricity customers increased from over 12.2 million in January to more than 12.3 million in February.
NERC noted that Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company recorded commendable improvement in its metering performance, with its metering rate increasing from 65.47 per cent to 66.36 per cent during the review period.
The commission added that Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, Eko Electricity Distribution Company, Ikeja Electric and Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company also maintained consistent gains in metering rollout.

According to the report, Eko and Ikeja emerged as the top-performing DisCos with metering rates above 84 per cent.
However, NERC listed Jos Electricity Distribution Company, Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, Kano Electricity Distribution Company and Yola Electricity Distribution Company among the DisCos with metering rates below 50 per cent.
The commission said electricity distribution companies would continue to meter new customers but stressed that faster deployment of meters remained necessary to significantly reduce the nation’s metering gap.
