The Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, yesterday received the newly appointed World Health Organization (WHO) Nigeria Country Representative, Mr. Parel Ursu, at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja to discuss NAFDAC denies FG directive to halt enforcement on sachet alcohol regulationcollaborative strategies for advancing Nigeria’s regulatory and public health systems.
During the meeting, Prof. Adeyeye highlighted NAFDAC’s achievements since 2017, including attaining WHO Maturity Level 3 (ML3), strengthening regulatory systems, and improving the quality of medicines through a robust Quality Management System and coordinated enforcement initiatives.
The discussion also focused on Nigeria’s shift toward local pharmaceutical manufacturing, ensuring sustainable production while managing medicine donations, and ongoing efforts to sanitize the drug distribution system.
Both parties pledged to deepen collaboration as NAFDAC advances toward WHO Maturity Level 4 (ML4), expands regulatory oversight to medical devices, and enhances capacity-building programs.NAFDAC seals 18 warehouses in Niger, uncovers ₦100m worth of expired products
