The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has dismissed reports claiming that the Federal Government directed it to suspend enforcement actions on sachet alcohol and 200ml PET bottle alcoholic products, describing the publication as false and misleading.
In a statement signed by its Director General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the agency said the report does not reflect any official communication from the Federal Government and urged the public to disregard the information.
“The said publication is false, misleading, and does not reflect any official communication received by the Agency from the Federal Government,” NAFDAC stated.
The agency emphasized that it operates strictly within its statutory mandate and in alignment with duly communicated government policies, noting that it has not received any formal directive ordering the suspension of regulatory or enforcement activities related to sachet alcohol products.
NAFDAC reiterated its commitment to protecting public health, ensuring regulatory compliance, and executing its responsibilities transparently in accordance with established laws and due process.
“At no time has the Agency received any formal directive to halt its regulatory actions. Any decision affecting national regulatory measures will be communicated through official government channels,” the statement added.
The agency called on members of the public, industry stakeholders, and the media to rely only on verified information issued through its official platforms and authorised government communication channels.
It also warned against the spread of unverified reports capable of triggering public anxiety, economic uncertainty, or misinterpretation of government policies.
Reaffirming its position, NAFDAC pledged to remain steadfast in promoting public health, economic stability, and the national interest.
