The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has honoured two of its distinguished professionals, Prince Gbadamosi Hakeem and Captain Shakirudeen Lamidi, as they retire from active service after completing 35 years of meritorious service in the Lagos State Civil Service.
The authority described the retirees as accomplished professionals whose careers contributed significantly to the development, safety and operational efficiency of water transportation in Lagos State.

Prince Gbadamosi Hakeem’s retirement marks the end of a long career in marine operations management. He was widely regarded by colleagues as one of LASWA’s outstanding Marine Operations Supervisors and was affectionately known as “Number 1” among members of his team.
During his years of service, Hakeem was responsible for overseeing the maintenance, deployment and operational readiness of LASWA’s fleet of boats.
He also supervised captains and deckhands operating across the state’s waterways, contributing to improved operational standards and safety compliance.

LASWA said his professionalism, commitment to excellence and mentorship helped develop younger boat captains and marine personnel who continue to contribute to the sector.
Hakeem began his public service career with the defunct Lagos State Ferry Corporation before joining LASWA, bringing extensive experience and institutional knowledge to the Authority.
For Captain Shakirudeen Lamidi, retirement brings to a close a remarkable career spanning decades in Lagos’ water transportation sector.
A seasoned mariner and senior boat captain, Lamidi was described by LASWA as a professional with extensive firsthand knowledge of the evolution of water transportation in the state.
Like Hakeem, he started his career with the Lagos State Ferry Corporation before joining LASWA in 2008.

Throughout his service, Lamidi demonstrated navigational expertise, professionalism and a strong commitment to waterways safety.
LASWA said his calm leadership and deep knowledge of Lagos waterways earned him the respect of colleagues, passengers and other stakeholders.
Beyond his operational responsibilities, the authority said Lamidi played an important mentoring role by helping younger captains acquire and preserve essential maritime knowledge.
