The Lagos State Government has launched the Sanwo-Olu Cares Initiative for Police Officers, granting 2,000 personnel under the Lagos State Police Command three months of unlimited free transportation across the state’s public transport network.
The initiative, announced by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport and Logistics, will cover the Blue Line, Red Line, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Electric Boats network.
After the three-month free transportation period, the beneficiaries will continue to enjoy a 50 per cent fare discount.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport and Logistics, Hon. Hassan Adekoya, said the gesture was part of the state government’s recognition of the role security agencies play in keeping Lagos safe.

He added that the initiative was also to commemorate three years since the commencement of commercial operations on the Lagos Blue Line Rail.
The programme adds to a growing list of officer-focused welfare initiatives rolled out by the Sanwo-Olu administration in recent months.
These include free eye screening and eyeglasses for personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Adekoya said the latest initiative was designed to support police officers while recognising their contributions to the safety and security of Lagos residents.
The statement was issued on September 9, 2026.
