Celebrity boxing turns chaotic as Portable walks out, Okocha declared winner

Business Pointers

Nigerian street-pop singer Portable suffered a dramatic defeat on Friday after he was disqualified from his celebrity boxing rematch against Nollywood actor Charles Okocha for walking out of the contest during the opening round.

The bout, tagged “Unfinished Business,” took place at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, and served as a rematch of their previous encounter, which Okocha had insisted was unfairly awarded to Portable.

The fight began with Portable appearing to have the upper hand before it descended into a wrestling-style scuffle, forcing the referee to intervene as both contestants grappled inside the ring.

The opening round was eventually halted, with security personnel and bodyguards stepping in to restore order amid the growing chaos.

However, before the contest could resume, Portable left the ring, drawing loud boos from spectators, including those seated in the VIP section.

Although officials later convinced the singer to return, he was disqualified for abandoning the bout, handing victory to Okocha.

Before entering the ring, Portable had expressed optimism about the fight while speaking backstage with his son.
“I am not happy, but I want God to make me happy and my family,” he said.

The outcome reversed the result of their first meeting, which Portable won by unanimous decision, and handed Okocha revenge in a contest that ended in controversy rather than a knockout.
