Former Arsenal F.C. midfielder Paul Merson has criticised Arsenal’s decision to sell Belgian forward Leandro Trossard to Beşiktaş J.K., describing the transfer as poor business by the Premier League club.
Trossard recently completed a move to Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas, bringing an end to his spell at Arsenal.
Reacting to the transfer in his Sky Sports column, Merson questioned Arsenal’s decision to part ways with the 31-year-old, insisting the Belgian remained one of the club’s most technically gifted players.
“For them to let Trossard go is not good business in my opinion – not for what you are selling,” Merson said.
The former Arsenal star expressed surprise that no other Premier League club made a move for the attacker before his switch to Turkey.

“He went for literally nothing. I can’t believe that half the Premier League were not after Trossard. He played in all the big games for Arsenal last season, and he is a brilliant footballer,” he added.
Merson distinguished between talented players and technically accomplished footballers, placing Trossard in the latter category.
“There are a lot of good players, but not a lot of good footballers out there. He came under that second category,” he said.
Trossard’s departure comes as Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta continues to reshape his squad ahead of the new season.
