Airtel Africa has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing customer experience for its 183.5 million subscribers through continued investment in network infrastructure, advanced technologies and strategic partnerships aimed at expanding coverage and capacity across the continent.

The telecommunications company disclosed this as it commenced activities for Customer Service Week 2026, with Chief Executive Officer, Sunil Taldar, pledging that Airtel would continue to go the extra mile in responding to customers’ needs and expectations.

Taldar said the theme of this year’s celebration, “The Extra Mile,” reflected the company’s commitment to improving customer experience by listening to subscribers, learning from their feedback and taking action to address their needs.

According to him, Airtel Africa’s investments in digital services and connectivity are designed not only to improve telecommunications services but also to expand digital and financial inclusion across its markets.

“By digitising our services and broadening access to connectivity, we are helping to unlock extraordinary opportunities for people, businesses and economies across the continent,” Taldar said.

The company said it had added more than 3,250 new network sites and deployed 3,200 kilometres of fibre infrastructure over the past year as part of efforts to increase network coverage and capacity.

Airtel Africa also said it had continued to invest in retail outlets and distribution channels, while deploying Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to improve customers’ digital experience.

Taldar highlighted the company’s recent commercial deployment of direct-to-device satellite connectivity in underserved rural communities as one of its latest initiatives.

The technology enables Airtel customers with compatible smartphones to remain connected in locations beyond the reach of terrestrial mobile networks, provided they have a clear view of the sky.

The development is expected to expand connectivity to communities where conventional mobile infrastructure remains limited, supporting Airtel’s broader digital inclusion strategy.

Airtel Africa also highlighted its AI-powered Spam Alert service, which it said was introduced to protect subscribers from spam and potentially fraudulent messages.

The service is available free to Airtel subscribers and uses artificial intelligence to identify and block suspected spam SMS messages while providing users with real-time updates.

The company said the initiative formed part of its broader efforts to improve customer safety and trust as more subscribers increasingly rely on digital services.

As part of the Customer Service Week activities, Airtel Africa said employees would join frontline teams across its 14 markets to engage directly with customers.

The company said the interactions would enable employees to better understand customers’ experiences and identify ways to improve the reliability and quality of services.

The telecommunications firm said the initiative reflected its broader strategy of placing customers at the centre of its operations while using technology and infrastructure investment to improve service delivery.

With its expanding network, fibre infrastructure, satellite connectivity and AI-enabled services, Airtel Africa said it would continue to invest in solutions aimed at deepening connectivity and financial and digital inclusion across the continent.
