The Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Musiliu Oseni, on Thursday chaired the first quarter 2026 Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) Stakeholders’ Meeting in Lagos, where he called for a strategic shift toward proactive public engagement in the power sector.
The quarterly NESI meeting brought together regulators and operators across the electricity value chain to review sector performance, assess ongoing reforms, and outline new targets aimed at improving electricity service delivery nationwide.
A major focus of the discussions was progress on critical infrastructure projects, particularly the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Energy Management System (EMS) initiatives.
According to stakeholders, the projects, once completed, are expected to significantly reduce system disturbances and enhance grid stability.
Oseni also stressed the need for clearer and more consistent communication of sector reforms and projects to the public.
He noted that improving public understanding of ongoing initiatives is crucial to building trust and sustaining support for reforms.

Participants at the meeting underscored the importance of public awareness campaigns to help Nigerians appreciate the long-term benefits of reforms in the electricity sector.
Operators were urged to project hope and confidence, with emphasis placed on effective communication as a key driver of progress.
The meeting was attended by the leadership of NERC, State Electricity Regulators, and key industry players, reflecting a coordinated effort to address challenges and strengthen the performance of Nigeria’s power sector.
