Four suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have been killed in an air operation around Kangarwa in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The precision airstrikes also destroyed 12 logistics boats reportedly belonging to the terrorist group, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama.
Makama said the operation was conducted at about 12:55pm on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, following intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance activities that detected a large concentration of suspected ISWAP logistics boats along the riverbank.
According to him, 44 boats suspected to be operated by the terrorist group were initially sighted around Kangarwa before Nigerian Air Force aircraft launched an airstrike on the location.
He said a second aircraft conducting armed reconnaissance subsequently observed terrorists attempting to salvage damaged boats and load them onto other vessels.
“Following the first strike, another aircraft conducting an armed reconnaissance mission remained overhead and observed terrorists attempting to salvage and load some of the damaged boats,” Makama said.

He added that the aircraft subsequently conducted another precision strike on terrorists gathered around a larger cluster of boats.
A battle damage assessment showed that four suspected terrorists were neutralised, while 12 logistics boats were destroyed.
The aircraft remained in the area after the operation to monitor further movements and provide continued surveillance, the report said.
The operation is part of ongoing military efforts to disrupt the logistics networks and movement of terrorist groups operating in the Lake Chad Basin and other parts of Borno State.
