The National Chairman of the Accord Party, Prof. Christopher Imumolen, has announced the withdrawal of the party’s support for Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and endorsed the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

Imumolen made the declaration on Thursday at the APC’s governorship mega rally in Osogbo, saying the Accord Party’s National Working Committee had resolved to support Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO.

The development followed the suspension of the Accord Party’s mega rally scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, amid an internal crisis within the party and its inability to mobilise members across the state for the campaign.

Imumolen subsequently urged all Accord Party members in Osun State to vote for Oyebamiji and the APC in Saturday’s election.

“As Chairman of the Accord Party, and with all our National Working Committee members here present, we withdraw our support for Governor Ademola Adeleke and support AMBO,” he said.

“All our members are enjoined to vote for AMBO and the APC in Saturday’s election.”

Also speaking at the rally, Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Senator Hope Uzodinma, declared that the APC was on the verge of victory in the election.

Uzodinma urged Osun voters to align with the Federal Government by joining the 31 states controlled by the APC.

“Vote AMBO, vote prosperity, vote Osun for the state to be prosperous. We 31 state governors are in the state in solidarity and to welcome the state to the fold of the progressives,” he said.

The Imo State governor also urged voters not to be intimidated by violence during the election.

“The party is already on the verge of victory. Vote on Saturday and don’t be intimidated by their waves of violence,” he said.

In his remarks, Oyebamiji pledged to run a people-oriented administration focused on improving the welfare of residents and delivering tangible dividends of democracy.

He said his administration would prioritise good governance and the welfare of the people, adding that politics must translate into concrete improvements in citizens’ lives.

“Our government that will be elected on August 15, 2026, will be a government of the people, and we will stand on your mandate.

“No dance anymore, but strict governance. I have the mandate to touch the lives of the people of Osun,” he said.

The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and APC leader in Osun State, Dr Adegboyega Oyetola, also urged voters to support Oyebamiji, describing him as a tested and trusted candidate.

Oyetola said Oyebamiji’s record in public service distinguished him from other contenders in the governorship race.

“Let’s support Oyebamiji. His track record is there compared to how other candidates have fared,” he said.

The Osun governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026.
