The Transportation Correspondents Association of Nigeria (TCAN) has commenced preparations for its 2026 Annual Transport Summit scheduled to hold in September in Lagos, with the theme, “Unlocking Economic Growth Through Transportation Logistics.”

In a statement released at the weekend, the umbrella body of transport journalists said the summit would bring together key stakeholders across Nigeria’s transportation value chain, including aviation, maritime, rail, road transport, and logistics services. Policymakers, regulators, captains of industry, financial institutions, and development partners are also expected to participate in the high-level engagement.

According to TCAN, the 2026 conference aims to critically examine how efficient transportation logistics can serve as a catalyst for sustainable economic growth, trade facilitation, job creation, and regional integration, particularly in the context of ongoing sector reforms and infrastructure investments.

Chairman of TCAN, Tola Adenubi, described transportation logistics as the backbone of economic development, stressing that the efficiency of Nigeria’s logistics ecosystem directly impacts the country’s competitiveness.

“From cargo handling at airports and seaports to inland freight movement and last-mile delivery systems, the efficiency of Nigeria’s logistics ecosystem plays a decisive role in determining the competitiveness of the nation’s economy,” Adenubi said.

He added that the summit would explore innovative strategies, digital transformation, infrastructure financing models, public-private partnerships, and regulatory frameworks necessary to optimise the sector.

Also speaking, Chairman of the 2026 Conference Committee, Suleiman Idris, said participants would engage in high-level panel discussions, keynote presentations, and interactive sessions designed to assess the current state of Nigeria’s transportation logistics architecture and identify bottlenecks hindering seamless cargo and passenger movement.

Idris noted that stakeholders would further examine the impact of multimodal transport integration on economic expansion, highlight investment opportunities within the logistics and supply chain ecosystem, and propose policy recommendations to enhance efficiency and global competitiveness.

As part of the event, TCAN will recognise government agencies and private operators that have made significant contributions to the sector through the presentation of its Champions of Transport Industry Development (COTID) certificates.

Over the years, the TCAN Annual Transport Summit has evolved into a credible platform for constructive dialogue between government agencies and logistics operators, shaping policy conversations while promoting transparency and accountability within Nigeria’s transportation industry.
