The Federal Government of Nigeria is taking steps to make foreign-currency savings and investments more accessible to ordinary Nigerians, including those living in the diaspora, in a bid to deepen financial inclusion and strengthen domestic capital markets.
The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, recently held discussions with Jishike Holdings Limited and Libeara, the digital assets arm of Standard Chartered, to review proposals aimed at widening participation in Nigeria’s domestic dollar investment programme.
The initiative builds on strong investor interest from the programme’s inaugural offering last year.
According to the Minister, the programme seeks to lower barriers to entry, encourage mass savings, and unlock retail participation in formal investment products.
He emphasized that the initiative would maintain a strong focus on investor protection, regulatory compliance, and long-term economic stability.
Mr. Edun reaffirmed the government’s commitment to innovative financing approaches that mobilize domestic resources and empower Nigerians to participate directly in the country’s economic growth.
The initiative could boost local capital market activity, attract diaspora investment, and provide ordinary Nigerians with more accessible tools to save and invest in foreign currency while supporting national development objectives.
