Nigeria’s real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 4.07 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2025, driven largely by increased crude oil production, according to the latest report released on Friday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The growth rate represents an improvement over the 3.76 per cent recorded in the corresponding period of 2024 and is also higher than the 3.98 per cent posted in the third quarter of 2025.

Data from the NBS showed that the oil sector led economic expansion in the quarter, recording a 6.79 per cent year-on-year growth, its strongest performance since the fourth quarter of 2023.

This marks a significant increase from the 2.08 per cent growth recorded in the same period of 2024.

The improved performance in the oil sector was attributed to higher crude oil output. Nigeria produced an average of 1.58 million barrels per day (mbpd) during the quarter under review. Although this was slightly below the 1.68 mbpd recorded in Q3 2025, it surpassed the 1.54 mbpd produced in Q4 2024.

The broader industry sector, buoyed by the strong performance of the oil segment, grew by 3.88 per cent in Q4 2025, compared to 2.49 per cent in the corresponding quarter of 2024.

The services sector also maintained positive momentum, expanding by 4.15 per cent during the period, though this was lower than the 4.75 per cent growth recorded in Q4 2024.

Meanwhile, the agriculture sector recorded a 4.00 per cent growth in the fourth quarter of 2025, showing a marked improvement from the 2.54 per cent posted in the same period of the previous year.

The latest figures underscore the continued role of the oil sector in shaping Nigeria’s economic performance, even as other key sectors of the economy recorded moderate but steady growth during the period under review.
