Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers has warned newly sworn-in government officials against holding unauthorised late-night meetings or engaging in conduct capable of embarrassing the state government, cautioning that such actions would attract immediate dismissal.
Fubara gave the warning on Thursday in Port Harcourt shortly after inaugurating the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Dagogo Wokoma, and the Chief of Staff (CoS), Mr Sunny Ewule.Also read: Osun: APC, Oyebamiji faults Adeleke over ‘incompetence, economic uncertainty’
The oath of allegiance and oath of office were administered to the appointees by the Chief Registrar of the State High Court, David Ihua-Maduenyi.
Describing the appointments as a call to public service rather than a platform for political grandstanding or personal ambition, the governor urged the officials to uphold integrity, restraint and dedication to the public interest.
He expressed confidence in Wokoma’s intellectual capacity, describing him as an accomplished academic and mathematician, and charged him to discharge his duties with diligence and professionalism.
Fubara further urged the SSG to represent the state government honourably and to support the successful completion of ongoing development projects aimed at advancing the progress of the state.Also read: Amaechi declares 2027 presidential bid
Addressing the new Chief of Staff, the governor emphasised that the office required effective administrative coordination, proper management of official engagements and the protection of Government House’s public image.
He stressed that the Chief of Staff must operate strictly under the governor’s authority and avoid independent political engagements or private strategy meetings without prior approval.
Fubara also directed permanent secretaries who have reached retirement age to prepare their handover notes without delay.
