President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved an 18-month extension of the tenures of the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nanna Nandap.

Under the approval, Nwakuche will remain in office until May 26, 2028, while Nandap’s tenure will end on June 30, 2028.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday, October 19, 2026, by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, the approval followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to address a succession gap in both agencies and provide sufficient time for their respective boards to appoint successors.

The extension will allow the two service chiefs to continue overseeing their agencies while the succession process is completed.

President Tinubu commended Nwakuche and Nandap for the reforms recorded under their leadership and urged them to consolidate the gains achieved so far.

Nwakuche was nominated by Tinubu as Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service in December 2024, with the Senate confirming his appointment in March 2025.

Nandap was nominated as Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service on February 21, 2024, and her appointment was confirmed by the Senate on March 1, 2024.

The latest decision extends the leadership tenures of both security agency chiefs beyond their previously expected exit dates, ensuring continuity in the administration of the correctional and immigration services.
