President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the recent attacks by gunmen in Angwan Rukuba district, Jos, Plateau State, and Kahir village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, describing the incidents as “barbaric and cowardly.”
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President called the attacks, which involved killings and abductions, an affront to all that Nigeria stands for.
He warned that those responsible would not go unpunished.
“Anyone who will sneak under the cover of the night and kill defenceless citizens as done in Jos and Kahir village is a heartless coward,” Tinubu said.
“By attacking soft targets in Jos, their objective is not only to cause harm but also trigger a spiral of reprisal attacks and further bloodletting.”
President Tinubu directed security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and curb the spread of misinformation that could inflame tensions.
He specifically cautioned against framing the attacks as religiously motivated, stressing that such narratives could endanger lives.

The President commended the safe return of two victims from Kaduna and urged the immediate rescue of all remaining abductees. He called for public cooperation with security operations, including evacuation and relocation measures.
Tinubu also praised Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State and Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State for their efforts in containing the violence and supporting rescue operations.
He assured both state governments of federal support and announced that his administration is acquiring sophisticated equipment to strengthen security agencies’ capacity to respond to such attacks in real time.
“I commiserate with the families of those killed and pray for the quick recovery of the injured,” he added.
