The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the installation of 82 power transformers across the country within the last 23 months as part of efforts to strengthen electricity transmission and improve power supply nationwide.
The development was disclosed in a publication outlining the company’s achievements and challenges over the past five years under the leadership of its Managing Director, Sule Abdulaziz. The document was made available to journalists on Thursday in Abuja.

According to the publication, the transformers were installed between January 2024 and November 2025, adding a total capacity of 8,500.5 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) to the national grid.
TCN stated that within the second half of 2025 alone, 15 power transformers with a combined capacity of 300 MVA were installed in key transmission locations, including Akangbe, Lekki, Alagbon, Ikeja West, Osogbo, Ganmo, Jos, Gombe, Kumbotso, Asaba, Oke-Aro, Benin, Alaoji and Katampe.
The company also revealed that plans are underway to install additional 300 MVA transformers to further strengthen the capacity of the national transmission grid.
It noted that the projects were executed under its strategic initiative, the Nigerian Electricity Grid Maintenance, Expansion and Rehabilitation Programme (NEGMERP), which focuses on improving the reliability and efficiency of power transmission infrastructure.
According to TCN, the reinforcement and expansion projects have enhanced bulk power transmission to distribution load centres nationwide, enabling Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) to off-take more electricity for distribution to customers within their franchise areas.
“This has consequently impacted positively on socio-economic activities across several states,” the company said.
TCN further assured that it would continue to improve system reliability and capacity by reinforcing existing transmission infrastructure, reducing transmission losses, and upgrading substations and transmission lines across the country.
The company added that it would also ensure proper gazetting and registration of all substation lands and transmission line Right of Way with relevant state governments to safeguard existing and future transmission projects.
