The South-West chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commended Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for what it described as his consistent efforts to sustain and strengthen Nigeria’s multi-party democracy.
Speaking at a news conference in Ibadan on Monday, the party’s Zonal Executives said Makinde had remained steadfast in ensuring that opposition parties continue to have space to operate within the democratic system.
The Zonal Publicity Secretary, Chief Sanya Atofarati, stated that the governor’s stance has contributed significantly to deepening democratic values in the country.
“The South-West PDP stands firmly behind Governor Makinde. His administration continues to demonstrate stability, focus, and an unwavering commitment to delivering democratic dividends to the good people of Oyo State,” Atofarati said.
He also dismissed recent rumours of an impeachment plot against the governor, describing them as baseless and politically motivated.

“The rumoured impeachment plot is nothing more than a calculated attempt to create unnecessary political tension and should be disregarded by all well-meaning Nigerians,” he added.
Atofarati noted that the PDP in the region remains in solidarity with Nigerians amid worsening economic hardship, insecurity, and growing uncertainty nationwide, reiterating the party’s commitment to offering a credible alternative focused on people-oriented governance and national development.
He urged citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and united, while rejecting any attempts by political actors to incite crisis or destabilise the country for personal gain.
The PDP spokesperson further reaffirmed the zone’s loyalty to the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), pledging continued support for its leadership and commitment to unity, discipline, and cohesion across all levels of the party.
He assured Nigerians of the PDP’s dedication to responsible leadership and its resolve to work towards a better future for all.
