The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested nine suspects linked to armed robbery and recovered several stolen vehicles and valuables across Abuja.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, noting that the arrests followed a robbery incident reported on Jan. 18 in the Jikwoyi area.
According to Adeh, the suspects had broken into a residence, making away with the occupant’s personal belongings, an unspecified sum of money, and a Toyota Corolla with registration number KUJ 549 CW.
“Acting promptly on the report, police operatives attached to the Command’s Scorpion Squad commenced an extensive, intelligence-driven investigation,” she said.
She explained that on Jan. 26, operatives tracked down and arrested the gang at their hideout in neighbouring Nasarawa State while they were “hibernating and planning another robbery attack in the Asokoro area of the FCT.”
Items recovered from the suspects include four television sets, five HP laptops, two Lenovo laptops, a Zinox laptop, a Dell laptop, two generators, and two solar batteries.
Other recovered items are a pumping machine, a DJ mixer, four club lights, a speaker, 10 bottles of Lambrusco wine, 60 bottles of red wine, a GOtv decoder, a knife, and a cooking gas cylinder.
Police also retrieved an LG home theatre system and three vehicles: a grey Toyota Camry with registration number MUS 234 CW, the stolen ash-coloured Toyota Corolla with registration number KUJ 549 CW, and another ash-coloured Toyota Camry with registration number MKD 372 AU.
Adeh said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects typically sold stolen vehicles to receivers in Kaduna and Kano states at prices ranging from N550,000 to N650,000.
She added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the receivers, while the suspects would be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
