Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has approved a N10,000 monthly transportation support allowance for civil servants in the state as part of measures to cushion the impact of rising living costs.
Makinde announced the initiative on Monday while supervising the YEAP-SAFER support disbursement and stakeholder engagement programme at the Fashola Agribusiness Hub in Oyo town.
The governor said the allowance would be implemented for an initial period of three months, with payments set to commence from March.
According to him, details of the disbursement guidelines would be communicated through appropriate government channels in due course.
Makinde explained that the initiative forms part of the state government’s strategic response to prevailing economic challenges, particularly the rising cost of transportation linked to the ongoing energy crisis.

He noted that the situation has significantly impacted workers’ welfare and productivity across the state.
The governor added that the transport support scheme is designed to ease the financial burden on civil servants while ensuring continued efficiency in service delivery across ministries, departments, and agencies.
The move comes amid growing concerns over the rising cost of living in Nigeria, with subnational governments increasingly introducing targeted interventions to support workers and sustain public sector performance.
