Special Adviser to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Bolaji Akinola, has lashed out at music star Davido over his recent social media comments against the Minister, Adegboyega Oyetola.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Akinola described the singer’s remarks as irresponsible and disrespectful, accusing him of abandoning Yoruba cultural values of respect for elders in defence of his uncle, Ademola Adeleke.
He said no amount of “social media theatrics” would prevent Governor Adeleke from suffering defeat in the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election.
According to Akinola, Davido’s criticism of Oyetola reflected “inherited arrogance” and poor decorum, insisting that insulting an elder statesman old enough to be the singer’s father was unacceptable.
“While every Nigerian has the right to political opinion and free expression, it is disgraceful that a public figure of Davido’s stature would resort to crude insults and juvenile theatrics against a statesman old enough to be his father,” Akinola stated.
“In Yoruba culture, respect for elders is not optional; it is a fundamental value. Well-brought-up Yoruba sons do not insult their elders on social media because of partisan excitement or family political interests,” he added.
The minister’s aide contrasted what he described as Oyetola’s record of dignity, competence and prudent leadership with what he termed the “clownish distractions” of the Adeleke political camp.
Akinola maintained that Oyetola’s achievements as former governor of Osun State and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy were enough response to critics.
“Unlike those addicted to social media drama and attention-seeking outbursts, His Excellency Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola’s record of service, performance and integrity speaks loudly for him,” he said.
“He does not need validation from celebrity noise-makers or political entertainers seeking relevance through insults.”

He further described insults and online attacks as signs of a “panicked campaign,” arguing that residents of Osun State were more interested in governance than celebrity influence and political theatrics.
Akinola also criticised the administration of Governor Adeleke, alleging that the state had experienced poor governance, economic stagnation and administrative incompetence over the last three and a half years.
He concluded by saying Oyetola remained focused on his national assignment in the marine and blue economy sector and would leave political decisions to the electorate in Osun State.
