Operatives of the Anti-Robbery Team of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate allegedly involved in robbery, carjacking and unlawful possession of firearms.

The suspects, identified as 46-year-old Adeyinka Onakomaya and 48-year-old Olayiwola Kehinde, were arrested during a follow-up operation linked to the recovery of a stolen red Toyota Matrix in April 2026.

The operation also led to the recovery of three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.

The police said the arrests followed sustained tactical intelligence and operational follow-up by the Anti-Robbery Team after the vehicle was recovered following an armed robbery incident reported in April.

According to the Command, operatives followed leads from the initial investigation and tracked the suspects to their respective hideouts in the Babaode area along Idiroko Road, Ota, Ogun State, and the Command area of Lagos State.

Preliminary investigations reportedly showed that the suspects, alongside other members of their gang, allegedly masterminded the April robbery and participated in several armed robbery operations and vehicle snatching incidents across Ota, Iju, Babaode and Atan areas of Ogun State.

The police said a search conducted following the arrests resulted in the recovery of the three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges.

During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to their involvement in various armed robbery operations in the region and are cooperating with detectives in the ongoing investigation.

The Command said efforts had been intensified to identify and arrest other members of the syndicate who are still at large.
