The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has partnered with the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) to raise its procurement compliance level to over 95 per cent, as part of efforts to enhance transparency and accountability in its operations.
The commitment was made by the Commission Chief Executive, Oritsemeyewa Eyesan, during a high-level capacity-building workshop for the commission’s top management held on Wednesday in Abuja.
The workshop, organised in collaboration with the Bureau of Public Procurement, aimed at strengthening the commission’s procurement processes in line with the Public Procurement Act 2007 and global best practices.
Eyesan emphasised the importance of strict compliance in the oil and gas sector, noting that the commission must operate with zero tolerance for corruption and inefficiency.
“Compliance is critical, especially in the industry we regulate. There is zero tolerance for indecision and corruption, and so we must not be found in error,” she said.
She added that the commission is committed to reforming its procurement system and ensuring full adherence to regulatory standards, stressing the need for continuous capacity building and institutional improvements.
According to her, the NUPRC is also prioritising the digitisation of its procurement processes to reduce human discretion and improve efficiency.
“We are already working on this, and by God’s grace, we will be launching a digital platform for our correspondences. We will take it further to ensure that all our processes are digitised,” she said.
Eyesan further disclosed that the commission plans to conduct an internal audit within six months to assess its progress, expressing confidence that it would achieve at least 90 per cent compliance within that period.

In his remarks, the Director-General of the BPP, Adebowale Adedokun, commended the NUPRC’s commitment to strengthening procurement transparency and urged participants to ensure that the workshop delivers tangible results.
The initiative underscores the commission’s broader drive to align its operations with international standards and reinforce public trust in Nigeria’s upstream petroleum sector.
