The NNPC Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility arm of NNPC Limited, has donated and commissioned a state-of-the-art 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine at the National Orthopaedic Hospital (NOH), Dala, Kano State, in a move aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and improving access to advanced diagnostic services.

The facility, which was officially handed over on Thursday at the hospital premises in Kano, is expected to significantly enhance the diagnosis and treatment of orthopaedic, neurological, trauma, musculoskeletal and gynaecological conditions.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, represented by the Managing Director of NNPC Foundation, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, said the intervention reflects the company’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and access to quality medical services across Nigeria.

She noted that before the donation, many patients requiring advanced MRI diagnostic services were often compelled to travel long distances, endure lengthy waiting periods and bear high costs due to limited availability of such facilities.

“At NNPC Limited, we are intentional about ensuring that our social investments are impactful, sustainable and beneficial to the communities we serve.

Through the NNPC Foundation, we will continue to implement interventions that create measurable social value across Nigeria,” she said.

Arukwe described the project as a timely intervention that would help address persistent challenges in Nigeria’s healthcare sector, including infrastructure deficits, equipment shortages and the growing demand for specialised medical services.

Also speaking, the Executive Vice President, Business Services, NNPC Limited, Mrs. Sophia Mbakwe, represented by the Executive Director, Programme Management at NNPC Foundation, Mrs. Rose Okonkwo, said the company remains committed to initiatives that positively impact the lives of Nigerians beyond its core energy business.

She said the MRI donation demonstrates NNPC Limited’s resolve to strengthen critical national institutions and improve the well-being of citizens.

“Today’s event is a testament to our steadfast commitment to deliver measurable impacts and scalable sustainable interventions to communities across Nigeria, inclusively targeting underserved and vulnerable members of society.

Through this intervention, NNPC Limited aims to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve the quality of life of the people of Kano State, the North-West geopolitical zone and all Nigerians who rely on the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Dala, for specialised medical care,” she stated.

The Kano State Government welcomed the initiative, describing it as a major boost to healthcare services in the region.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Commissioner for Health, Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, commended the NNPC Foundation for the donation, noting that access to advanced diagnostic technology would facilitate early detection, accurate diagnosis and improved patient outcomes.
