The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has denied claims circulating in some quarters that it is selling refinery scrap materials, equipment, or components to individuals and private companies, describing the reports as false and misleading.
In a public notice issued on Friday in Abuja, the company said it had not authorised any request for bids, tenders, expressions of interest, or approvals for the sale of scrap materials, refinery components, or any items from the warehouses and inventories of its refineries.
The notice, signed by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Limited, Andy Odeh, said the company had also received reports of some individuals falsely presenting themselves as representatives or agents of the firm to facilitate the sale of so-called scrap metals and refinery equipment.
According to the statement, such individuals are not authorised by NNPC Limited and are only attempting to deceive and defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
NNPC advised the public, corporate organisations, and industry stakeholders to disregard any such claims or solicitations and to be cautious when dealing with anyone making such representations.
The company stressed that, for the avoidance of doubt, it is not conducting and has not approved any sale of scrap metals, equipment, or refinery components from any of its facilities.
It further explained that any legitimate disposal of assets would only be carried out through established and transparent processes, publicly communicated through the company’s official channels and in line with applicable regulations.
The statement urged members of the public who encounter individuals or entities making such claims to report the matter to the appropriate law enforcement authorities for necessary action.
NNPC Limited reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the responsible management of national energy assets, while calling on Nigerians to remain vigilant against fraudulent activities.
