The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has approved the appointment of Commodore Reginald Odeodi Adoki as the new Commander of the Maritime Guard Command (MGC) at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
Commodore Adoki takes over from Commodore H.C. Oriekeze, who has been redeployed.
This was disclosed in statement signed by Deputy Director and Head of Public Relations at NIMASA, Osagie Edward.
A principal Warfare Officer specialising in communication and intelligence, Adoki brings 25 years of experience in the Nigerian Navy, spanning training, staff, and operational assignments. As a seaman officer, he has commanded NNS Andoni, NNS Kyanwa, and NNS Kada.
Notably, under his leadership, NNS Kada undertook its maiden voyage from its country of build, the United Arab Emirates, to Nigeria.
Commissioned into the Navy in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, Adoki has since strengthened his academic profile with a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos and a Master of Science degree in Terrorism, Security and Policing from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom.
He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Defence and Security Studies at the National Defence Academy (NDA).
The highly decorated officer has received several medals in recognition of his distinguished service.
Welcoming the new Maritime Guard Command Commander, the Director-General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, expressed confidence in Adoki’s appointment, noting that his vast experience would further strengthen Nigeria’s maritime security architecture.
The Maritime Guard Command, domiciled within NIMASA, was established under the Memorandum of Understanding between the agency and the Nigerian Navy.
The initiative is aimed at enhancing operational efficiency in Nigeria’s territorial waters, particularly in enforcing maritime security, safety, and regulatory compliance.
