The Nigerian military has reportedly killed a notorious bandit commander, Kachalla Hare, during a security operation in Zamfara State.

Hare, who was said to have operated around Mada in Gusau Local Government Area and neighbouring Bungudu Local Government Area, reportedly died after sustaining serious injuries during an encounter with security forces.

The development was disclosed by Bakatsine, a journalist covering conflicts in Nigeria’s North-West, in a post on X.
According to the report, Hare and members of his group engaged security operatives near Gusami village, a community located between Bungudu and Gusau.

The encounter reportedly resulted in the deaths of several members of the bandit group, while Hare was said to have been captured after sustaining critical injuries.

He was reportedly found in possession of ammunition following the operation but later died from his injuries in the early hours of Wednesday.

There had been earlier reports that the bandit commander had been killed after one of his associates was eliminated days earlier. However, those reports could not be independently confirmed at the time.

Hare’s reported death comes amid intensified military operations targeting bandit groups and other criminal elements operating across Zamfara and other parts of the North-West.

Security forces have in recent months increased operations against bandit commanders and their networks in the region, with the aim of disrupting their activities and restoring security to communities affected by persistent attacks.
