No fewer than 10 persons, including nine soldiers, were killed and scores of women abducted when terrorists from the Islamic State West Africa Province attacked Ngoshe town in Gwoza Local Government Area on Wednesday night, BusinessDay reports.
Sources said the heavily armed militants stormed the remote village shortly after residents broke their fast during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. They targeted both military personnel and civilians, overwhelming troops with superior firepower.
A security source told reporters that the attackers ransacked the entire community, killing nine soldiers, the town’s Chief Imam, and abducting scores of women and children.

“As I am speaking to you now, the entire people of Ngoshe have fled into the bushes, and nobody is left in the village. It was devastating and sad,” the source said.
Another top source from the Joint Task Force (JTF) disclosed that the terrorists destroyed a military armoured personnel vehicle, key logistics, and substantial parts of the village, forcing hundreds of residents to flee their homes.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the attack, which highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region.
This incident underscores the persistent threat posed by ISWAP in northeastern Nigeria, where communities remain vulnerable to insurgent attacks despite ongoing military operations.
