The Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has reiterated his administration’s commitment to intensifying efforts against drug abuse and illicit trafficking through strengthened collaboration with security agencies.
Dauda made this known on Wednesday while receiving the Area Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ojodu Command, Deacon Jibo Magayaku Sanusi, at the Ikeja Local Government Secretariat.
The visit focused on enhancing cooperation between the council and the NDLEA in tackling drug-related offences within Ikeja and its environs, with both parties agreeing on the need for stronger community-based interventions.
The council chairman commended the NDLEA for its sustained efforts in combating drug abuse, describing it as a major threat to youth development, public safety, and social stability.
He assured the agency of the local government’s readiness to support ongoing operations through awareness campaigns, community engagement, and intelligence sharing aimed at reducing the spread of illicit substances.
According to him, his administration remains committed to safeguarding residents and addressing the root causes of drug abuse at the grassroots level.
In his remarks, NDLEA Area Commander, Deacon Jibo Magayaku Sanusi, expressed appreciation for the warm reception and emphasised the importance of inter-agency collaboration in achieving lasting results in drug control.

He reaffirmed the agency’s resolve to enforce drug laws and deepen preventive education across communities, noting that sustained engagement with local authorities would enhance operational effectiveness.
Both parties agreed to strengthen joint efforts in promoting a drug-free society and improving public awareness campaigns within Ikeja and surrounding areas
