35-Year-Old Arraigned in Ibadan Court Over Alleged N900,000 Theft of Building Materials
A 35-year-old man, Aliyu Mohammed, has been arraigned before a Grade A Customary Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, over the alleged theft of building materials valued at N900,000.
Mohammed was docked on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, break-in, malicious damage and stealing. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.
The court ruled that each surety must provide evidence of landed property and proof of tax payment to the Oyo State Government.
The case was adjourned until April 1 for hearing.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Ayodele Ayeni, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences on February 2 at the Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
Ayeni alleged that Mohammed, alongside others now at large, broke into the residence of Mr Bamidele Oluwole and stole electrical cables, bags of cement, roofing sheets and a bicycle.
The prosecutor further claimed that the suspects damaged some electrical installations and the plaster of Paris (POP) fittings in the house during the incident.
According to the prosecution, the total value of the stolen items and damaged property is estimated at N900,000.
The offences, the prosecutor said, contravene Sections 249, 411, 451 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
