Electricity consumers in Lagos and parts of Oyo State are facing renewed power disruptions following a drop in generation caused by gas supply constraints on the National Grid, as well as infrastructure damage linked to a road accident in Ibadan.
In separate notices issued on February 7, 2026, Ikeja Electric and Eko Electricity Distribution Company confirmed that reduced gas availability to power plants has significantly affected grid supply, forcing distribution companies to implement increased load shedding across their networks.
Ikeja Electric disclosed that the shortfall has impacted several transmission stations within its coverage area, including Oworo, Amuwo, Isolo, Ejigbo, Itire and Akoka Transmission Stations.
The utility added that supply to the New Yaba Injection Substation has been particularly affected, raising the likelihood of longer outage periods for customers connected to the facility.
“Supply has reduced due to gas constraints on the National Grid, resulting in increased load shedding,” the company said, while appealing for customers’ patience.
According to the management of Ikeja Electric, industry stakeholders are actively working to address the grid supply limitations, expressing optimism that normal service will gradually resume once the gas situation improves.
Eko Electricity Distribution Company also attributed the unstable power situation across its franchise areas to a decline in electricity generation nationwide.
The company said intermittent load shedding had become necessary to manage the reduced allocation from the grid.
“This situation is being closely monitored, and efforts are being made to mitigate the current gas supply constraints,” the company stated, assuring customers that updates would be communicated as progress is made.
The development underscores the continued dependence of Nigeria’s power generation on gas-fired plants, making electricity supply highly vulnerable to disruptions in gas production and distribution.
Meanwhile, the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) reported a separate outage in the Ibadan region after a vehicular accident damaged a high-tension pole along the Oluyole 11kV feeder, cutting off supply to multiple communities.
Areas currently affected include Bada, Green Gate, Blue Gate, Aare, Oyelami, Star Gate, Akintobi, Obasa, Water World, CIDA House, Ajuwon, Wey-Tak 1 and 2, as well as neighbouring locations.
IBEDC said its technical crew has been deployed to the site and is working to repair the damaged infrastructure and restore electricity as quickly as possible.
“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience,” the company said in the notice to customers.
The latest incidents add to mounting concerns over the reliability of power supply in the country, as gas shortages, aging infrastructure, accidents and other operational challenges continue to disrupt electricity distribution, leaving households and businesses grappling with unstable power.
